FESS Fire Protection is seeking experienced General Manager for our Alarm Division in the Charlotte, NC area.

The Fire Alarm General Manager (GM) will join the team at an exciting time. FESS is growing in the region and is expanding to open another location. The GM will be a key part in servicing current clients, helping to grow the region, increasing sales, and building a team. We are looking for a technical leader who is ready for the next step in his or her career progression to help build out the region, transition into a leadership role, and build a local team.

The GM must have senior level field technician experience, with the ability to test, troubleshoot, and service most panel types.

Specific Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of senior level fire alarm service (installing, testing, troubleshooting, repairs)
  • Fire Alarm replacement project management a plus
  • NICET certification and ability to get NICET III certification – Specific Job Requirements:
  • Must pass a background check and drug test
  • Work full time and occasionally respond to emergency service calls.
  • Must be licensed or certified to perform fire alarm services in the state and local jurisdictions.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Must maintain a clean and professional appearance wearing company provided shirts.
  • Must be good with communication to customers and be able to increase business opportunities with existing and new clients.
  • Expected to continue personal and professional development through leadership and technical training.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes (NFPA 72, local)
  • Follow internal company procedures and policies.
  • Proficient with use of basic office software such as professional email communication, creating professional word and excel documents, and managing work order management system.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to occasionally perform work in unusual and difficult positions such as climbing ladders, working on scaffolding and lifts working in and around ducts, and crawling when needed.

JUNIOR FIRE SPRINKLER DESIGNER

Junior Fire Sprinkler Designer

Junior Fire Sprinkler Designer

Under the guidance of seasoned fire sprinkler designers, the Junior Fire Sprinkler designer will assist in the preparation of NFPA compliant fire sprinkler shop drawings utilizing AutoCAD. This position will require the building of knowledge dealing with the selection of fire sprinkler system components, hazard analysis, fluid hydraulics, interpretation of code compliance requirements, and industry standards for the installation of fire protection systems. Candidate will assist in surveying existing fire protection systems, drawing preparation, material listing, and field survey as required to successfully install fire sprinkler systems. This position requires an eager and motivated team player with a positive, professional attitude and demeanor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree or higher in Architecture/Mechanical Design/Construction Management, three years of fire sprinkler installation, or completed AFSA/NFSA Fire Sprinkler Apprenticeship/Design training.
  • Mechanical and mathematical aptitude with strong desire to excel.
  • Proven Autocad 2010 or higher proficiency and ability to learn new software.
  • Computer fluency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills needed.
  • Continuous employment for a period of three years.
  • Must be able to use computer keyboard and focus attention to PC monitor for prolonged periods, with occasional job-site visits and moderate lifting of 25 lbs required.
  • Occasional out of town travel may be required.

Responsibilities :

  • Learn to prepare fire protection design drawings and hydraulic calculations, within time and budget constraints, for commercial and residential buildings in compliance with applicable codes for submittal and fabrication.
  • The successful candidate must exhibit a desire to train on new systems and technologies.
  • Continue to expand knowledge in the field of fire protection by on the job training and self-direction.
  • Maintain project drawing files, drawing library and associated records.
  • Check accuracy of own work and demonstrate “Pride of Ownership”.
  • Successfully interact with internal and external customers.
  • Project site coordination of sprinkler pipe installation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Fire Sprinkler Inspector

Perform assigned tasks on Fire Sprinkler Systems including, but not limited to, the visual inspection and functional testing of fire sprinkler systems, risers, standpipe systems. Maintain complete and accurate documentation of all tests performed. Experience in fire sprinkler inspection and testing is required. Basic knowledge of fire sprinkler system layout requirements is also preferred.

Responsibilities will include providing inspection, testing, and preventive maintenance services for fire sprinkler equipment to comply with NFPA25 Standards as well as national, state and local codes.

*Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience*

  • Minimum 2 years of experience performing fire sprinkler inspection, testing and maintenance services.
  • Must have a working knowledge of sprinkler controls, alarm panels, devices, and critical components.
  • Must have a current license in the State of North Carolina as a Fire Sprinkler Inspection Technician or Inspection Contractor. Preference will be given to NICET Level II or above Certification in Sprinkler Inspection and Testing. Consideration will be given if a candidate is pursuing NICET Level II or above Certification while maintaining an NC Inspections Technician license.
  • Additional requirements:
  • Must have a working knowledge of Wet, Dry, Preaction and Deluge Sprinkler Systems. Knowledge of design and layout requirements for fire sprinkler systems is desirable.
  • Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Individual must possess a valid Driver’s license in good standing
  • Individual must be at least 21 years of age
  • Fire pump inspection and testing experience highly desired.

Directly Reports to: General Manager – Sprinkler Division

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform routine service and maintenance of fire sprinkler/standpipe systems and related equipment.
  • Perform flow tests, fire pump tests, hydrostatic tests, main drain tests, trip test dry valves, and test hydrants.
  • Operate Rigid power machine and to thread and groove pipe as well as proper head spacing.
  • Accurately complete and return all field paperwork on time.
  • Be available for off-hour emergency service calls and the on-call schedule assigned.
  • Report all accidents, mishaps and/or customer complaints immediately.
  • Interface with customers to explain work to be performed, answer their questions and address their concerns in a knowledgeable and respectful manner.
  • Provide accurate and complete information on reports
  • Manage time including time on the job as well as time on road to job sites.

Experience:

  • Required: 5 years related experience
  • OSHA Safety Training (Preferred)

Licensing:

  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record required
  • NC Backflow Preventer Certification (Preferred)
